Over the past four decades, Ricoh has accumulated countless technologies while being environmentally conscious. Starting with sensitized paper, Ricoh moved on to cameras, reprographic and telecommunications equipment.

  • Ricoh launches the Aficio line of digital copiers, and captures Number One Position in Digital Market, according to Dataquest.

  • Ricoh becomes a core member of the Salutation Consortium, a group of 24 top global players in information technologies, dedicated to establishing an industry standard interface for computers and office equipment.
  • Ricoh starts marketing scanners. Their first scanner, the IS420, receives "Editors Choice" and "Best Product of the Year" from Imaging magazine.
  • Ricoh becomes the first copier manufacturer to sign the EPA's new Energy Star "Memorandum of Understanding" for copiers.
  • Ricoh introduces RDC-1, the first multimedia digital camera that records still and moving images with sound and is computer-connective.

  • Ricoh Corporation becomes gold-level sponsor of US Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams.

  • Ricoh FAX PF-1 recognized by Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Smallest Fax Machine."
  • Buyers Laboratory selects the RICOH FT6750 copier and the RICOH FAX3200L facsimile for the "Pick of the Year" awards.
  • Ricoh introduces 25 new copier and facsimile products, the most ever in a given year in the US market.
  • Ricoh becomes the "Official Facsimile Machine" sponsor for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and starts building the Olympic Fax Networks to link the global Olympic family.

  • Ricoh Finance Corporation subsidiary is formed.
  • Software research center opens in San Jose, California.

  • Ricoh of America, Inc. is merged with Rapicom, Inc., to form Ricoh Corporation, dedicated to sales of OA equipment and cameras in the North American market.
  • Ricoh's first scanner, IS20, is marketed as OEM equipment to other companies.
  • Construction is completed on a National Spare Parts Center near Los Angeles, CA, for distribution of parts throughout North and South America.
